Recently (Dec. 17), The Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, more commonly known as The Oscars, introducing their new logo which will be used for the 86th awards, due to be held next March.
Richard Harrington, head of design at 180LA, says the ‘A’ mark ‘visually pulls the whole brand together’. He
adds, ‘We can invite other artists, photographers and film-makers to
interpret the A shape as a visual constant through everything from
poster design to magazine covers right down to something as simple as a
business card.’
The rebrand has started as a thought two years ago and became reality with the help of agency 180LA.
"We developed a visual identity that's as inspired by
the Academy's heritage as it is by our future, including the
much-anticipated opening of our Academy Museum in 2017", said The Academy Chief Marketing Officer, Christina Kounelias.
The new logo
spotlights the Oscar from above – creating a triangular shape and
uniting the "A" of the Academy with our iconic statuette. This design
gives the Academy a presence in its own logo for the first time and
underscores our efforts to support creative arts and sciences
year-round.

Even though I'm not studying design, I'm still loving design world. I'm trying really hard to get some lettering done. After the idea came to my mind, I start to sketch and if I get enough time I'll continue it to inking. My lettering' ideas got so much influence by my life stories. I need some motivation to continue studying in university, and I want to spread my spirit with my friends. I've posted my lettering on Instagram
My life changed a lot these days, but something stays the same, hand lettering. AdiKun CreativeSo here it goes.
To my fellow readers,
I'm sorry that I can't get my blog filled with something for the last 2 months. I've been so busy on my university, studying Informatics Engineering on Tenth November Institute of Technology.
Despite of the degree I'm studying, I'm still learning design too. Recently, I'm learning about HMTL5 and CSS3 from many sites that provides free courses. I also read books and articles. Really, I'm still an amateur on the design world, but I try to be my best by learning everyday.
I usually spent my day learning and seeking for inspiration, follow the trend on going but trying to find a space for a twist. Hoping I can stand out from the "hipsters". I visit these pages daily, sometimes finding free design resources, free template, free font, and inspiration.

It was a wonderful vacation to Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. I spent 4 days there and of course I bring my sketch book and microns along. Hand-lettering hasn't been my daily routine yet, but I try to make one if I got an idea, maybe famous quote or just a phrases comes up in my mind.
I made some lettering there, inspired by the surroundings which is very beautiful. It was a nice time. Since I lived in Jakarta, Bandung is the best place to retreat from daily routine, where you can see mountains and crop field, such a beautiful landscape. These are the letters I made.
On my way home, I stopped on a cafe to take a break with my family. There's a sign hanging, and it really catches my sight. It was a great sign, so I decided to took a photo of it. This is a good example of a good typography.
Sorry for 'not good enough' quality of my images. I'll try to make it better next time. Thanks for scrolling down here, please leave me any comment if you mind. Cheers!

Who doesn't need money? Of course everybody wants it. I'm looking for it at my own. And this is a short story about me in a journey of finding a happiness. My family is not the very rich one, where you can ask for something as just buy it straight away. I want to buy something expensive, but I don't have the money. I try to search in the internet, how to get money online. I don't get the real answer that I want. Many of them are fake or just Pay per Click that you can't really depend on. Until I find this real freelance or part-time job. It's not a real job though, it's a contest.
At my first year at High School, I took an extracurricular of Graphic Design. The teacher teach me how to use Corel Draw and Photoshop. I fell in love with it. I spent much time looking browsing around the internet looking for good graphic design tutorial. I study hard to improve my skill. From zero to be something. Whenever my school have an event I'm the one who they look ing for to make a poster for the event. I don't get paid any cent for it. I thought it was a good chance to improve my skill.
With my only laptop and a mobile broadband modem, I start my quest in 99design. I've entered 9 contest when I got my first winning. It's a logo contest, making a logo for a Thailand restaurant. I big leap for me. Since then I decided to become a great designer. So I still join some contest and improve my skill everyday.
This is the logo that make me winning the contest.
It's not an instant winning. I work so many hours on this. I do mistakes and so many revisions.
I changed color scheme from red-orange to orange-green-black, also changes the font several times. And the contest holder decide to use the 'mozaic' tree rather than the 'doodle' tree. And with the begining font. It's not a very good logo, but because the contest holder like what I've done there, he chose me. Overall, I beat 142 entries by 34 other designers to win a $200 prize.
A $200 price is a rather big money for teenager on High School like me, moreover, it's Indonesia. It's about Rp 1.900.000,- in Indonesian Rupiah. I spent it for a Hanvon tablet - because Wacom one is more expensive, and I bought a new Wrangler jeans. That's such a wonderful time for me. And then I realized, that the design world is much much bigger than I thought. I still trying improve my skill recently. And I'm happy making design. Right now, I'm doing hand-lettering and still struggling on 99designs to get more winning.
Georgia Hill is an Australian freelance typographer, illustrator and graphic designer working from Berlin, Germany. She's doing great artworks from small logos, posters to wall mural. I think she got an unlimited creativity because she's making arts on many media, and it's so colorful and lot of detail.
I hope someday I can do something incredible like she does. These are her artworks from Behance.
